More Patriots Discovered

I’ve discovered two more ancestors who answered the alarm two hundred and fifty years ago on April 19, 1775. This makes four patriots on my father’s side of the family who took to the field during the Battles of Lexington and Concord. I will provide more details on how I found them later, but as a matter of introduction, I present them here:

Samuel Stearns (1726-1801), father of Hannah, who married Eldad Corbett. They were the grandparents of Tamar Denny (1802-1890). Tamar was my great-grandmother’s grandmother.

Eldad Corbett (1752-1831) of Myrified (Rowe), Massachusetts, is listed three times in “Massachusetts Soldiers & Sailors of The American Revolution” – a compilation of muster rolls. Eldad married Hannah Stearns (1762-1830) on 20 July 1775 at Mendon, Massachusetts.

In these two episodes, I will show how I use my brother’s DNA to find more ancestors. I also have new information on one ancestor I discovered, Eldad Corbett.

    1. Cousin Jerry, no, I haven’t. It’s funny you should ask that because when I was growing up, my mother and her mother had these nitpicky differences. I guess my grandmother told my mother multiple times that she should apply to the Daughters of the American Revolution since my mother’s father had a few ancestors who served in the Southern colonies. My mother hated the DAR because of their well-documented racism and bigotry, and yet, much to my mother’s annoyance, my grandmother would occasionally bring it up. Now, you’ve made me curious, and although I’m not big on club memberships in general, I will at least check in on the requirements.

      1. Yes- I remember some anti DAR sentiment (understandable). My hometown had some horrible bigoty, including the KKK, rooted in its past. Let me know what is involved in the SAR application please. I don’t know if you follow the tv show- Jeopardy but, there was a contestant named David DeBacker on a couple of weeks ago.
